| The town of Laval, is located in the West part
of France, in the department of "Mayenne" (in France, a department is a
subdivision of the national territory). Just under the region (another
kind of subdivision!) of Normandy (region of the D Day / June 1944), and
just at the right of Brittany, the department of Mayenne is in the region
of "Pays de la Loire" (lands of the river Loire) .
70 km (43 miles) form Rennes, Le Mans and Angers, and at 300 km (185
miles) form Paris, access by motor-way and train (with the TGV, the French
High-Speed Train), Laval is an "easy to access" town, for tourism as for
companies wanting to get benefits of the European Common market.
The town has about 60.000 inhabitants, called "Lavallois". In a historical
point of view, Laval was the land of a Baron, and became land of a Comte
(earl) in 1429. |

The town of Laval is also the "prefecture" of Mayenne,
meaning that its the location of the administration of the department.
"Mayenne" is a department with about 130.000 inhabitants, on 5251 Km2
(3260
Miles square).
Agriculture is the main activity in the department, but many smalls
industries are making the economy quite subsequent and active.
Horse-farming, especially for racing, is one of the particularity of
the department. With more than 8.000 horses, 11 hippodromes, training-circuits
and so on, the department has been, and is yet a great provider of champions,
all over the world ! |
